An uncharacteristic slip-up has seen PSG lose two of their last three Ligue 1 games (W1), with both defeats coming against sides starting the weekend in the top-five. The visit of bottom-half Reims looks to be an easier test on paper then, and with eight wins from their last nine H2H Ligue 1 home games (L1), PSG will expect to return to winning ways.
The Parisians are hot favourites to do so as they’ve won 27 of their last 31 home league games (D4), but with fresh news of a dressing room rift after Kylian Mbappé was made vice captain, it remains to be seen how a fractious squad comes together. PSG are perhaps wise to keep Mbappé happy, as it’s him and his fellow forwards who have underpinned that solid home run, with PSG scoring in 20 successive Ligue 1 home games.
PSG mustn’t take a contest with Reims for granted however, as they actually boast Ligue 1’s longest current unbeaten run (W4, D7). Despite that, Reims still find themselves languishing in mid-table, largely due to collecting a league high ten draws this term, but with one of those a 0-0 draw in the reverse fixture, they have already shown the ability to silence PSG’s star-studded front line.

fixed matches

In fact, Reims have only conceded more than once on one occasion across that unbeaten run, which underpins the solid work Will Still has done in the hot seat. He may have insisted in the lead up to this game that he “couldn’t be any happier than he already is”, but there’s little doubt avoiding a loss to PSG here, and becoming just the eighth manager to avoid defeat in his opening ten Ligue 1 games in the process, would see him travel home an even happier man.
Players to watch: Expect a late showing if Lionel Messi is to get in on the action, with all but one of his home Ligue 1 goals for PSG coming after the break. A happy traveller, Reims’ Marshall Munetsi will hope to overshadow the Argentinian with all three of his league goals this season serving to open the scoring away from home.
Hot stat: PSG have scored exactly once in the first half in seven of their nine home league games this season.

Hot football news today:

A second-string Real Madrid side edged fourth-tier CP Cacereno 1-0 in the Copa del Rey last 32 with a late goal from Rodrygo as they bid for their first triumph in the competition since 2014.

Real manager Carlo Ancelotti made nine changes to the team that won 2-0 at Real Valladolid on Friday, resting several key players including Karim Benzema and Vinicius Jr.

Real went into the break locked at 0-0 versus Cacereno, with a crowded stadium seeing little action in the opening period.

It took 69 minutes for Real to break the deadlock when Rodrygo eluded the Cacereno defence to get into the box where he elegantly placed his shot into the top-right corner.

The Santos youth product celebrated by honouring the late Pele, replicating his iconic punch in the air.

Cacereno mounted a late push to get an equaliser, but Real went into defensive mode and ran down the clock.

Hot football news today:

Any doubts about whether a young Martin Odegaard (24) could shoulder the responsibility of the captain’s armband for Arsenal have been erased in half a season after he guided them to the top of the Premier League with a seven-point lead.

Odegaard, who turned 24 last month, has been Arsenal’s most influential player this season, oozing confidence in midfield and fuelling the club’s first real title challenge in years.

He leads the club’s scoring charts with seven league goals and has five assists to boot, eclipsing his overall tally from the last campaign in just 15 games.

On Saturday, he was front and centre again as Arsenal extended their lead over reigning champions Manchester City with a 4-2 win at Brighton & Hove Albion to end 2022 on a high and underline their title credentials.

The Norwegian scored Arsenal’s second but impressed even more with a jaw-dropping assist from his own half for the fourth goal: a first-time through ball that carved open the defence and set Gabriel Martinelli on his way.

“Martin Odegaard knows what he’s doing before this ball comes … A lot of people don’t see that pass, he’s probably the only player on the pitch who sees that,” said Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson.

“(City’s) Kevin De Bruyne sees it, Odegaard sees it. But I don’t think any other player in the Premier League sees it open up.”

Having initially signed the midfielder on loan from Real Madrid, the 35 million euros, Arsenal paid to make his move permanent now looks like a steal.

The fee was cheaper than the 42.5 million pounds Arsenal paid in 2013 to sign Mesut Ozil from the Spanish club – the same team where Odegaard was hardly given the opportunity to establish himself.

SHARP EYE

Mikel Arteta’s side had lacked a genuine playmaker since Ozil’s acrimonious exit but Odegaard gives the north London club much more than just a creative outlet in midfield with a sharp eye for a pass.

The Norway international is not averse to dropping deep to help out the defence, be it by providing an escape route under pressure from the opponents’ press or by getting his socks dirty in winning the ball back.

“He’s doing what we want him to do, to decide football matches and work really hard and deliver to the team what it needs in each moment of every game, which is different,” Arteta said.

online fixed matches

Odegaard’s transformation has drawn parallels with former club captain Cesc Fabregas, who was tasked with leading the side at the tender age of 21 by ex-manager Arsene Wenger.

“I was desperate to sign him (when he was 15), fortunately, he is here now. He really is like a young Cesc Fabregas,” Wenger told TV2.

“He has developed into a complete player. He’s a very calm player who analyses the game well. He has his feet firmly planted on the ground.”

Arsenal had been looking to appoint a full-time captain after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was stripped of the armband over a disciplinary breach last season.

And Arteta had no qualms about handing Odegaard the responsibility despite the presence of more senior players.

“He has represented the values of this football club, the team… in the best possible way,” Arteta said. “He’s also the captain of his national team and I think it was the right call.”

Hot football news today:

Pele, the magical Brazilian football star who rose from barefoot poverty to become one of the greatest and best-known athletes in modern history, died at the age of 82, his daughter said on Instagram on Thursday.

He had been in and out of the hospital in recent months. Sao Paulo’s Albert Einstein hospital, where Pele was undergoing treatment, said he died at 3:27 p.m. “due to multiple organ failures resulting from the progression of colon cancer associated with his previous medical condition.”

The death of the only man to win the World Cup three times as a player was confirmed on his Instagram account.

“Inspiration and love marked the journey of King Pele, who peacefully passed away today,” it read, adding he had “enchanted the world with his genius in sport, stopped a war, carried out social works all over the world and spread what he most believed to be the cure for all our problems: love.”

Pele had been undergoing chemotherapy since he had a tumour removed from his colon in September 2021.

He also had difficulty walking unaided since an unsuccessful hip operation in 2012. In February 2020, on the eve of the coronavirus pandemic, his son Edinho said Pele’s ailing physical state had left him depressed.

A LEGEND DEPARTS

Pele, whose given name was Edson Arantes do Nascimento, scored a world record 1,281 goals, and is the only player ever to win the World Cup three times.

With sublime skills and a winning smile, he helped make soccer the world’s most popular sport and he charmed popes, presidents and Hollywood stars in a seven-decade career as a player and ambassador for the sport.

Born on October 23rd, 1940, in the small Minas Gerais town of Tres Coracoes, or ‘Three Hearts’, Edson Arantes do Nascimento learned the game from his father, a semi-professional player whose promising career was derailed by a knee injury.

Several aspects of his youth are obscured by myth, including the origin of his famous nickname. As Pele (sometimes) told it, he often played as a goalkeeper in neighbourhood games, and kids began comparing him to a local player named ‘Bile’ – and the letters got twisted over the years.

Whatever the truth, he was soon dazzling scouts not as a goalkeeper but as an attacking forward – a prototype number 10.

He was respected for his range of talents, and more so than any player since, he could do it all: He was two-footed, had tremendous pace and stamina, he could head, pass, tackle – and of course, he could score goals.

Expert Fixed Matches

He joined Santos at the age of 15 and turned the small coastal club into one of the most famous names in football.

Over a glittering 18-year spell at the club, he won every honour in Brazilian football as well as two Copa Libertadores – the South American equivalent of the Champions League – and two Intercontinental Cups, the annual tournament held between the best teams in Europe and South America.

His talent was soon recognized by the national team and he was chosen for the Brazil squad heading to the 1958 World Cup in Sweden – although a team psychologist called the then 17-year-old “obviously infantile” and advised against playing him.

Pele went on to score a hat-trick within one half of the semi-final against France, and another two goals in the final against the host Swedish team – helping Brazil to its first-ever championship.

Injuries kept him out of all but two games in the 1962 Cup, which Brazil won. At the 1970 tournament in Mexico, a now fully mature 29-year-old Pele won the title for a third time with a Brazil side that included other stars such as Carlos Alberto Torres and Tostao and is considered by many to be the greatest team ever.

“I told myself before the game, ‘He’s made of skin and bones just like everyone else’,” said Tarcisio Burgnich, the Italian defender charged with marking Pele in the 1970 final.

“But I was wrong.”

NEW YORK STAR

Pele initially retired in 1974 but after finding that ill-advised investments had left him broke he accepted an offer the following year to play in the fledgling North American Soccer League for the then-astonishing sum of about $1 million a year.

Pele’s charisma dazzled even hardened New Yorkers. He hobnobbed with celebrities and once shared a table at the famed Studio 54 nightclub with Mick Jagger, Rod Stewart and Andy Warhol – who called Pele the exception to his saying that everyone would have 15 minutes of fame.

“Pele was one of the few who contradicted my theory: Instead of 15 minutes of fame, he will have 15 centuries,” the artist said.

Even in such company, Pele stayed away from alcohol and drugs, saying he needed to protect his body and serve as a role model for kids.

He admitted to other “weaknesses,” though. His two divorces, numerous affairs, and the two children he acknowledged fathering outside of marriage fueled perceptions of a gap between the squeaky-clean corporate pitchman and the elusive real-life person who preferred to be called Edson.

On the field, Pele led the New York Cosmos to the league championship in 1977 and attracted millions of fans to a sport that had previously seemed inaccessible and European. Expert Fixed Matches

Best FixeD matches

Years later, when the United States won the right to host the 1994 World Cup, the head of the US soccer federation called Pele the “most important” reason why.

Pele’s 1,281 goals in 1,366 games, as tabulated by FIFA’s website, came at a startling rate of 0.94 per match. Some of those were friendlies or came in games played as part of his military service, but he was just as prolific in official tournaments, with 757 goals in 812 games.

Pele had suffered from a series of health issues in recent years, including hip surgery that left him with recurring pain and trouble walking unaided. He reduced his public appearances but remained active on social media.

Pele is survived by six known children. A seventh, whom he didn’t recognize as his own for years, died of cancer in 2006. Expert Fixed Matches

Hot football news today:

Marcus Rashford continued his recent Manchester United renaissance, with a deadly goal and assist combo before HT on the way to a 3-0 landslide, which left Nottingham Forest embedded in the Premier League (PL)’s bottom three while putting the Red Devils within a point of fourth-placed Tottenham.

United’s early pressure was as persistent as the torrential rain that lashed Old Trafford during an entertaining first half, and after Tyrell Malacia saw a fierce drive turned onto a post by Forest goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey, United went ahead in the 20th minute thanks to a well-worked set piece. Christian Eriksen displayed his customarily superb vision to slide his corner kick into the path of Rashford, who guided home classily from close range for his 10th club goal in all competitions this season, to follow up his supreme solo effort against Burnley in the Carabao Cup last week.

Erik ten Hag’s men then doubled their advantage three minutes later, courtesy of an attack that started with a tenacious Casemiro challenge on Taiwo Awoniyi deep in the Brazilian’s own half. After returning World Cup finalist Raphaël Varane and early pacesetter Malacia helped move the ball up the pitch, Bruno Fernandes played a perfect pass down the left into the path of Rashford, who burst forward and chopped inside Serge Aurier before finding Anthony Martial, whose side-footed effort agonisingly beat the dive of Wayne Hennessey after going through the legs of Willy Boly.

Match Fixing Football

A rasping drive from Ryan Yates had David de Gea panicking just after the half-hour mark, and Forest’s vice-captain seemed to have helped halve the deficit just before the break, nodding in off the post with the aid of a Boly deflection from Renan Lodi’s whipped free-kick, but the goal was ruled out after the centre-back was ruled offside by VAR. That only served to further fire up Steve Cooper’s side, but the visitors’ morale would be further dented with the influential ex-United man Jesse Lingard’s withdrawal through injury.

Soon after seeing his compatriot depart, Rashford again turned on the style, sliding a wonderful through-ball to Fernandes, but the Portugal international’s lay-off to Antony was fired straight at Hennessey. The Welshman’s reflexes were next tested by Martial, as the hosts looked to put the contest to bed before Antony and Martial were withdrawn for Donny van de Beek and 18-year-old Alejandro Garnacho, with the pair combining to set up Rashford, who was denied impressively by Hennessey.

Late substitute Fred had the last laugh on 87 minutes though, applying a cool finish to Casemiro’s inch-perfect ball after the midfielder had intercepted Emmanuel Dennis’ pass as Forest looked to break. The loss left the East Midlanders still searching for their first PL away win, with the team’s sole PL goal on hostile turf still dating back to a 1-1 draw at Everton in August. United, meanwhile, will be confident of overhauling Spurs as they have a game in hand on the North Londoners and can leapfrog Antonio Conte’s charges temporarily with a win at Wolves on Saturday lunchtime.

The deal between the Dutch side, who currently sit third in the Eredivisie, and Liverpool has not been officially announced but club general manager, Marcel Brands, said the deal was a “record transfer fee for PSV” in a statement.

Reports are suggesting that fee is thought to be around 37 million pounds.

Gakpo will now travel to England imminently. To finalise the deal with Liverpool and it is expected that he will be officially unveiled on New Year’s Day, meaning he could be in line for his debut against Brentford on January 2.
